Hinglish player support: how players really type, and how to understand them

· 5 min read

Most chatbots are built for neat English sentences. Players on Indian portals don't write like that. They write fast, on a phone, in a mix of Hindi and English, and they're usually worried about money. A bot that only understands textbook English sends most of them to an agent.

What players actually send

A few real-style examples, and what each one means:

bhai 2000 ka deposit kiya wallet me nhi aaya
I deposited ₹2,000 and it isn't in my wallet.
withdrawl kab tak aayega??
When will my withdrawal arrive?
kyc pending kyu hai
Why is my KYC still pending?
2 ghante ho gaye
It's been two hours (an answer to “how long ago did you pay?”).
bank se bheja tha
I sent it by bank transfer.
paisa innum varala
Tamil in English letters: the money still hasn't come.

What a support bot has to handle

Understanding these is less about clever language models and more about doing the boring things carefully:

  • Hinglish words for the same thing: paisa, amount, money, rupaye.
  • Spelling the way people speak: withdrawl, widraw, diposit, nhi, nahi, nai.
  • SMS short forms: pls, plz, msg, k, bt, kb.
  • Words glued together or split apart: walletme, with draw.
  • Hindi in Devanagari script, and Tamil, Telugu, Kannada or Malayalam typed in English letters.
  • Numbers that mean different things: a 12-digit UTR, an amount, a time, a withdrawal ID.

Answer in the language they used

A player who writes in Hinglish should get Hinglish back, short and clear, with the numbers that matter: “Aapka ₹2,000 ka withdrawal 14:05 par bank ko bheja gaya hai.” Formal Hindi feels distant and plain English can feel like a wall. Keep amounts, times and IDs exactly as they are in every language.

When the bot doesn't understand

It will happen. What matters is what comes next. Don't send the player back to the start. Offer the few options that fit where they are, let them keep typing, and if it still doesn't work, hand them to a person with everything they said. Then collect the messages the bot missed, and teach it those words, so the same message works next time.

How Ria handles it

Ria reads Hinglish, Hindi script, SMS short forms, typos and glued words, and Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam typed in English letters. She answers in English or Hinglish, with your approved wording and live numbers from your system. Players can type at every step. Messages she misses are collected in Teach Ria, where your team picks the words and teaches her in one click.
